Our Story

We are the Alvarez family, local from Northern Colorado. After exploring other areas during our college years we found that Northern Colorado is a great place to raise our three children and enjoy the company of our animals, although we sometimes lose track of how many we have. After much research, we found that miniature donkeys made wonderful family companions and would help teach our children how to care for such loving creatures. In 2020 we purchased our first pair of miniature donkeys, Penelope & Pierre. Not long after that someone asked if the donkeys could come to their wedding as a fun treat for their guests. Considering how sweet these two donkeys are, we said YES. And well folks…the rest is history.

We feel blessed to share our experiences and are thankful for the life we have. All the glory goes to God.

We can’t wait to celebrate with you,

Alex, Dani, Elena, Natalia, and Leo

What you should know about the Farm at Sparrow Hill

The Farm at Sparrow Hill currently operates two primary ventures:

Beverage Animals - We are home to the Sparrow Hill Beverage Burros and Friends, Northern Colorado’s premier beverage-serving donkeys. We also showcase Beverages with Beethoven, featuring our Valais Blacknose Sheep, and our Beer Steers, which are mini highland steers that serve beverages. Our beverage animals are a delightful addition to any event, serving as perfect ice-breakers and providing fun photo opportunities.

Sheep - We are actively breeding Valais Blacknose Sheep, often referred to as “the cutest sheep in the world.” This rare breed has recently been introduced to the USA, and we are working toward achieving purebred status. Additionally, we are crossing our Valais Blacknose Sheep with the beloved Babydoll Sheep to create what we call Blacknose Dolls™. We are currently taking names for our always evolving wait list. We also maintain a small flock of registered Babydoll Sheep, which we are breeding with spotted rams to create Spotted Babydolls.

Beyond raising well-mannered animals and breeding some of the world’s cutest sheep, our livestock has been featured in photo shoots, engagements, weddings, and a variety of events. Equipped with insurance and professional equine handlers, we frequently receive requests and opportunities that demonstrate the versatility of our business. We take pride in hosting various events and leveraging our animals to create memorable experiences for people in our Northern Colorado community.
